This book begins by carefully outlining the characteristics and history of the Leica—details often overlooked because people assume they already know them—thereby deepening the reader's understanding of this familiar camera. It then examines in detail—through the actual disassembly of units—the various factory modification services offered by Leitz. Furthermore, the book delves into Japanese and Russian cameras that emulated the Leica, incorporating its innovative features such as interchangeable lenses and a coupled rangefinder. A major focus of the book is the research into the "Hansa Canon" and "Seiki Canon" from the Seiki Kogaku era, as well as the related lineage of Kogaku Seiki (later known as Nikka).
