Turn your Windows PC into a GS-compatible MIDI Sound Module! The Z-MIDI W5 for Windows/Z is an interface unit (PCB) that connects your X68000 Z series (EARLY ACCESS KIT / BLACK EDITION) to a Windows PC. It allows you to enjoy GS-compatible MIDI music easily, even without owning a physical MIDI sound module. In addition to PC integration, it supports MIDI-OUT (equivalent to the V2 series) and MIDI-IN (equivalent to the 4th series), enabling you to connect external MIDI modules and keyboards. Connection Connect the UART port on the back of the X68000 Z to a USB port on your Windows PC. Both MIDI-IN and MIDI-OUT are supported for each device. Operation Modes [Z-MIDI Mode]: Optimized for X68000 Z gaming and music. Best for GS playback via PC. Z-MIDI Mode (For X68000 Z) This mode is designed specifically for use with the X68000 Z. It supports MIDI-IN (4th series equivalent) and MIDI-OUT (V1 / V2 / V2.2 / X3 / 4th series equivalent). MIDI-IN: Direct input to the X68000 Z. MIDI-OUT: Outputs to external gear AND sends MIDI signals to your PC via MIDI-IN, allowing you to use the built-in Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth. Note: By configuring software on Windows, you can enjoy performances using authentic (licensed) Roland GS sound sources without a physical module. Note: MIDI-THRU / 2-OUT (4th series equivalent) is not supported. Note: Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth does not support reverb, which may affect the playback quality of certain MIDI files. [Windows Mode]: Functions as a standard MIDI interface for your PC. Perfect for DTM and DAW software. Windows Mode (For PC MIDI Tasks) Use this mode to utilize MIDI devices directly on your Windows PC. MIDI-IN: 1 Port MIDI-OUT: 2 Ports Note: Equipped with the CH345T chip from Nanjing Qinheng Microelectronics Co., Ltd. Software compatibility depends on the IC specifications. Note: This mode did not perform well with emulators; please consider it a bonus feature. Noise Reduction: Includes ferrite beads (1KΩ@100MHz)—an optional MIDI 1.0 spec—and a maximized GND pattern on both sides of the PCB. Compact Design: Designed for portability alongside the X68000 Z, allowing direct connection without TRS cables. Safety Features: A resettable fuse is inserted into the 5V line, and the MIDI-OUT output voltage is set to 5V to prevent shorts.
