STICKY SYMBOLA is an illustrated ZINE that explores the theme of “hidden messages” shared by two seemingly different motifs: classical symbols and contemporary street stickers. While researching street art such as graffiti and stickers, I was deeply inspired by the idea that meaning is created not only by the image itself, but also by where it is drawn or placed. This led me to imagine what kind of stickers I would create, and where I would place them, if I wanted them to carry meaning. From there, I decided to use classical symbols—long associated with hidden and symbolic meanings—as the basis for this project. The ZINE features 34 original sticker designs, printed in full color. To reflect the theme of hidden messages, parts of the book are printed with varnish, allowing messages to subtly emerge depending on how the light hits the page. In addition to the illustrations, the book includes brief explanations and personal reflections on graffiti and sticker culture, as well as the symbolic meanings behind each of the 34 designs.
