【要　旨】 　我が国における英語教育が実用英語へと大きく舵を取る状況で、これまでの文法に特化した伝統的な英語教育法が総括を求められている。それ自体は決して間違っていない。しかし、それが実用性だけに焦点をあてて論じられるならば、論説を読み社会問題を論じることで知性と人間性を育てるという言語教育の重要な目的が見失われることになる。その結果、コミュニケーション力を持ちながらも、社会問題に対して無感覚で無批判の感性が萎えた人間が育てられることにもなる。 むしろ英語教育が不毛であった原因は、実用性の欠如とともに、学問的な問題意識が欠如していたことにある。すなわち、教育の根幹をなす社会的問題意識の育成を伴わずに、言語的知識を形ばかりに築こうとしてきたことにその原因がある。 それ故、この問題の解決策の一つは、英語教育を「リベラルアーツ」、つまり「＜知＞の枠組み」を構成する学際的教養の一分枝として位置付けることで、広い問題意識と豊かな人間性を育てることに求められる。その様な教育方法こそ、昨今話題となっている「高大接続」の要となるものである。この観点から、本稿は、専門知識のみならず高い人間性が強く要請される医学部の受験英語教材を対象として、これまで無秩序に行われてきた英語教育を社会文化論的に体系的に整理したものである。 【キーワード】 高大接続、英語教育、リベラルアーツ、臨床医学、医療人類学 【ABSTRACT】 In the present situation where English education is turning toward a focus on practical English, it is necessary to re-evaluate the traditional dedication to grammar. However, if we focus on practicability, the original aim of language education will be missed, that of enhancing the intelligence and humanity of students who read about and discuss social problems. As a result, humans will be shaped with capable communication skills but indifferent and uncritical toward social problems. It is this lack of problem awareness as well as of the practicability that has led to the unproductiveness of the English education. In other words, the educational policy of fostering students’ linguistic knowledge without an intellectual interest in social problems is its cause of failure. Therefore, one solution to this problem is to view English education as one branch of “liberal arts,” the interdisciplinary studies composing “the framework of Wisdom.” This is essential in “high school/university articulation.” Accordingly, this paper organizes the method of English education socioculturally from this point of view, targeting medical school entrance exams of English, as this field requires rich humanity as well as expertise. 【Key words】 high school/university articulation, English education, liberal arts, clinical medicine, medical anthropology
