【Book Announcement】 『Modern Japanese Absinthe Guide — Volume I』 Documenting Japan’s absinthe culture. The first volume to carry it into the future. Salon ArHall is pleased to present this book as an introduction to absinthe currently being produced in Japan and to the people who create it. Absinthe is a spirit with a long history and a distinctive culture, yet it is still not widely known in Japan. At the same time, a growing number of fascinating absinthes are now being produced across the country, each reflecting the unique character of its region and distillery. We wanted to introduce these absinthes being made in Japan today, along with the people behind them, and to preserve a record of contemporary Japanese absinthe culture for the future. It was with this desire that we began creating this book. This guide introduces distilleries and absinthes from across Japan, while also explaining what absinthe is, the wormwood plant, traditional methods of drinking absinthe, the tools associated with its preparation, and other topics designed to be accessible and enjoyable even for those discovering absinthe for the first time. To help people outside Japan learn more about contemporary Japanese absinthe, the book also includes English translations alongside the original Japanese text. In producing this book, I have used AI technology as an assistive tool in certain parts of the production process, particularly in areas such as design and layout, which are not my strongest skills. All published content has been reviewed and edited before publication. The printed edition will be available in limited quantities, with advance reservations given priority. The price includes tax and domestic shipping within Japan. To make the book accessible to as many people as possible, the complete PDF edition will also be made available free of charge. Whether you would like to keep a physical copy on your bookshelf or simply begin by reading the digital edition, we hope you will enjoy the book in whichever format suits you best. For this project, we also contacted several distilleries in addition to those featured in the book. Due to individual circumstances—including changes in production or company structures and plans for future business development—some distilleries decided not to participate in this edition. We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to all of the distilleries and individuals who supported the purpose of this project and generously gave their valuable time not only to participate, but also to review and revise the relevant manuscripts despite their busy schedules. We hope this book will serve as a gateway into a new world for those who have never encountered absinthe before, while also giving longtime absinthe enthusiasts an opportunity to rediscover the people producing absinthe in Japan and the unique appeal of their creations. If this volume is enjoyed by many readers, we hope to consider producing **Volume II** in the future. May this book serve as the first step in an ongoing effort to document and preserve the evolving story of Japanese absinthe culture for years to come. --- About This Guide This guidebook was created with the aim of introducing the appeal and diversity of domestically produced absinthe made throughout Japan to a wider audience. Due to the nature of this technology, some images, designs, and other visual elements may not have optimal resolution or clarity. This may be particularly noticeable in the printed edition, where image roughness or a lack of fine detail may be more apparent than in the PDF (digital) edition viewed on a screen. As this book is an independently produced publication, there may be some areas where the quality does not fully meet professional publishing standards. We hope you will enjoy the book with an understanding of these limitations. We will continue to make improvements in order to provide even better content in the future. --- Published & Edited by Salon ArHall – Absinthe Bar & Forbidden Museum – (Okayama, Japan) Planning, Editing & Composition:** Salon ArHall Writing: Salon ArHall Design & Production: Salon ArHall AI technology was used to assist with certain stages of the editing and production process in order to improve production efficiency.
