【作品解説 / Description of the work】
鉛筆画『冥空の稲妻 -九州 J7W 局地戦闘機 震電-』”Lightning in the Deep Sky -Kyushu J7W Shinden-” 「震電」は、第二次世界大戦末期に大日本帝国海軍が試作した局地戦闘機です。まるで通常の航空機の前後を逆転させたような独特な機体形状（エンテ型または前翼型と称される）を持っています。この極めて特徴的な翼形状から「異端の翼」とも呼ばれました。最高速度740 km/h（400ノット）以上を目標に開発が進められ、昭和20（1945）年に試作機が完成。同年8月3日に、九州飛行機テストパイロット操縦の試験飛行により初飛行に成功しました。続く6日、8日と試験飛行を行ったものの、発動機に故障が発生し三菱重工へ連絡をとって部品を取り寄せている最中に終戦となりました。 同機は、知る人ぞ知るマニアックな大戦機でしたが、令和5（2023）年に公開され大ヒットした映画『ゴジラ-1.0』で、主人公がゴジラと戦うために乗り込んだ機体に抜擢されたことから注目が集まりました。撮影に使われた原寸大の模型は大刀洗平和記念館に展示されています。 この作品は、雑誌『丸』の「ゴジラ-1.0」特集関連の記事に提供するために制作したものです。プラモデルを購入して様々な構図を検討しましたが、機首側から広角気味に眺める構図以上の魅力的な姿を見出すことができませんでした。私にとっての「震電」は、やはりこの姿です。 The Shinden is a prototype short-range, land-based interceptor developed by the Imperial Japanese Navy at the end of World War II. It has a unique fuselage shape that looks as if the front and back of an ordinary aircraft have been reversed. It was also called "heretical wing" because of its extremely distinctive wing shape. Development of the prototype was completed in 1945 with the goal of achieving a maximum speed of 740 km/h (400 knots) or more. On August 3 of the same year, the first flight was successfully completed by a test flight piloted by a Kyushu Aircraft test pilot. The next test flights were conducted on August 6 and 8, but the engine malfunctioned, and the war ended while parts were being ordered from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The Shinden was a maniacal warplane known only to those in the know, but it attracted attention when it was selected as the aircraft that the main character boarded to fight Godzilla in the hit movie "Godzilla-1.0," which was released in 2023. The full-scale model used in the filming is on display at the Tachiarai Peace Memorial Museum. This work was created to contribute to an article related to the "Godzilla-1.0" feature in the military magazine Maru. I purchased the plastic model and considered various compositions, but I could not find a more attractive figure than the composition in which the aircraft is viewed from the nose side with a wide-angle view. For me, the "Shinden" is still this figure.
