鉛筆画『溟海の尖兵 -駆逐艦 朝潮 2600‐』”Vanguard of the Ocean -Destroyer Asashio 2600-” 駆逐艦「朝潮」は、第二次軍備補充計画（②計画、昭和9年度）で建造された朝潮型駆逐艦10隻の1番艦です。吹雪型で実現した艦隊型駆逐艦のコンセプトをさらに発展させた最初の型であり、後の陽炎型や夕雲型の基礎となりました。大東亜戦争中、朝潮型10隻はさまざまな作戦に従事し、いずれも最前線で奮闘した末に戦没しています。「朝潮」は開戦直後から南方作戦やバリ島沖海戦に参加。昭和17年6月のミッドウェー作戦では、最上型重巡洋艦4隻の掩護を担当しました。その後、ガダルカナル島攻防戦に投入され、駆逐艦輸送任務や第三次ソロモン海戦に参加。昭和18年3月のラエ輸送作戦（第八十一号作戦）では、3日、敵機の波状攻撃により次々と被弾・戦没する僚艦を救援するため、単艦で孤軍奮闘しました。「朝潮」は損傷した「荒潮」から負傷者と陸兵を収容し、次いで炎上中の特務艦「野島」から生存者を救助。しかし、ラバウルへ避退中にダンピール海峡で敵機の2度にわたる襲来を受け、撃沈されました。本作品の主題は、昭和15年当時の第二水雷戦隊第八駆逐隊に所属していた「朝潮」です。先頭から「朝潮」「大潮」「満潮」「荒潮」の順で単縦陣を組み、数千メートル級の砲雷撃戦を想定した実戦訓練中の勇姿をイメージしています。主砲と魚雷発射管を左舷に指向しながら突撃し、まさに魚雷を発射した瞬間を描写しました。制作にあたっては、ご依頼主様からの強いご希望もあり、作品の制作開始・海面の描き込み開始・波の完成を、それぞれ実艦の起工日（9月6日）、進水日（12月16日）、竣工日（8月31日）に合わせました。そのため、作品のサイン日付は2681年8月31日となっています。 The destroyer "Asashio" is the first of ten Asashio class destroyers built under plan ② (1934). It was the first destroyer to further develop the fleet type destroyer realized in Fubuki class, and became the basis for the later Kagero and Yugumo class. During the Greater East Asia War, the ten Asashio class destroyers were engaged in a variety of maneuvers, and all of them fought hard on the front lines and ended their lives in the sea of battle. The "Asashio" participated in the Southern Campaign and Battle of Badung Strait from the early stages of the Greater East Asia War. She took on the role of covering four Mogami-type heavy cruisers during the Midway campaign in June 1942. Later, she was deployed in the Battle of Gadarcanal, and participated in destroyer transports and the Third Battle of the Solomons. Participated in Operation Rae Transport (Operation 81) in March 1943. On March 3, 1943, she fought alone to rescue her comrades who were hit and killed one after another by wave after wave of attacks from enemy aircraft during the same operation. The Asashio took in the wounded crew and soldiers of the Arashio, then rescued survivors from the burning Nojima, and while evacuating to Rabaul, was sunk in the Dampier Strait by two heavy enemy air strikes. The theme of this picture is Asashio, a member of the 8th Destroyer Division of the 2nd Destroyer Squadron in 1940. In this scene, the Asashio is in the lead, followed by the Oshio, the Michishio, and the Arashio in a single-strength formation during a practical training exercise for a gun battle and torpedo battle over several thousand meters. Both main guns and torpedo tubes were pointing to port while charging, and I depicted the exact moment when the torpedoes were released.
