A Unity Editor extension that moves a hairstyle made for one avatar onto a different avatar's head. Put the target avatar and the hair in the scene and press one button: Hair Retargeter reads the head shape, matches the hair's position, size and silhouette, pushes strands out of the forehead and cheeks, and recalibrates the hair's bones and PhysBones for the new head. With a "head profile" of the original avatar it works even when that avatar is not in your project. For hairstyles that are not on the supported list, for hair mash-ups, and for taking your favourite hair to a new avatar. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ■ Three fit modes ・Hybrid (default): uses head profiles (the head shape recorded in 2,112 directions) of the source and target for the initial transform, then refines against the real target head. Kikyo and Shinano profiles are included ・Geometry: the classic method without profiles. The source avatar is in the scene, or the shape is estimated from the inside of the hair ・Profile: applies only the global transform between profiles (when you do not want the shape changed) ■ Fitting ・Make your own head profiles in one click from any avatar you own. Export / import as JSON, so profiles can be shared on their own ・Penetration fix: vertices sunk into the forehead, cheeks or temples are pushed to the surface; hidden inner faces are left alone ・Works with avatars that have no modelled scalp (directions without a head are not tested) ・Bone follow and PhysBone recalibration: bone roots follow the new head, tips keep their length; PhysBone Radius / Endpoint / Collider corrected per chain (with the VRChat SDK) ・BlendShapes preserved: expression and adjustment BlendShapes are rebuilt for the deformed shape (all frames) ・Take an avatar's own hair to another avatar, even when it is not a separate prefab (hair and bones are copied out) ・Auto-hide original parts: the target's own hair, animal ears and horns are hidden automatically (selectable in a list, restored by "Revert") ■ Checking ・Diagnostics: 640 directions measure deviation from the original design, new penetration and uncovered directions, colour-coded in the Scene view, plus hairline error and confidence ・Analyze & preview → Save & attach: check the front, sides and back before saving ・Re-fit: rebuild a generated hair from the saved inputs, settings and profiles ■ Finishing ・Material / colour unification: pick one reference hair material and copy its look (shading, rim, outline...) and colour to the other hair parts ・Recolour: shift the hair colour with hue / saturation / value sliders, optionally baked into the texture ・See-through bangs: only the part over the face becomes semi-transparent. lilToon settings only, works on Quest, one button to remove ■ Free Hair Retargeter Profile Maker (separate listing) A free standalone tool that only creates head profile JSON files, so hair and avatar authors can share profiles without buying Hair Retargeter. ・Listing: https://jesusclub.booth.pm/items/8905203 ・Generated JSON may be distributed freely (loaded with "Load JSON" in the profile section of Hair Retargeter) ■ Requirements ・Unity 2022.3 (verified with 2022.3.22f1 / VRChat SDK 3.10) ・Hair as SkinnedMeshRenderer or MeshRenderer ・Works without the VRChat SDK (with the SDK, PhysBone / Collider sizes are corrected too) ・See-through bangs and non-baked recolour require lilToon materials (other shaders simply skip those features) ・PC and Quest avatars (see-through bangs add one transparent material) ・UI in English and Japanese (switchable in the window) ■ Installation 1. Import HairRetargeter_v1_1_1_EN.unitypackage 2. Open Tools > Hair Retargeter > Open 3. Drag the target avatar and the hair. For Hybrid, choose the source profile (create the target one with "Create profile from current target") 4. "Analyze & preview", then "Save & attach". Materials and see-through bangs are in the foldouts of the same window ■ When things go wrong Head shapes differ a lot between avatars, so some combinations give unexpected results. Every run writes a log to Assets/HairRetargeter/Logs/ (settings and numbers only, no models or textures). If something goes wrong, send that file through a BOOTH message and I will reproduce and fix it. ■ Notes ・Diagnostic counts and ratios are not a "success rate". Transparent textures are not evaluated, so always check the preview ・For very different head shapes, use the margin, hairline and scale sliders ・See-through bangs affect every material of the "face" renderer; if face and head share one, pick the renderer manually or split the materials ・Do not install the old "Hair Fitter" in the same project (duplicate classes). Remove it first ・Back up your Unity project before trying ・Images are samples.
